TNI to hold simple 81st anniversary ceremony

Jakarta (ANTARA) - TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said the Indonesian military’s 81st anniversary ceremony on Oct. 5 will be held simply at TNI headquarters in East Jakarta as personnel remain deployed for disaster response.

Agus said in Jakarta on Sunday that TNI personnel who would normally attend the ceremony were still deployed in several disaster-hit areas.

“The TNI anniversary will be held simply at headquarters because many troops who would attend the ceremony are in disaster-hit areas,” he said.

Agus said TNI personnel were still assisting the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and related ministries with disaster response in several regions.

“Those in Aceh have also not returned because they are helping BNPB and other ministries,” he said.

Agus said the main anniversary ceremony at TNI headquarters would focus on internal activities, with limited participation from the public.

“We will keep it simple and internal, involving only a limited number of students from several schools,” he said.

The decision to hold a simple ceremony was made so personnel still needed for disaster response could remain in affected areas, Agus said.

The TNI had previously held several anniversary events involving the public, including a military equipment exhibition, sporting activities, and a band parade.

The military equipment exhibition was held at the National Monument (Monas) complex in Jakarta on Sept. 19-20, 2026, and was open to the public.

The TNI also held sporting and community events, including a fun run, domino games, and fishing activities.
