Justice Secretary Fredderick Vida on Thursday said the Department of Justice (DOJ) will soon file the petition for the extradition of Kingodm of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Apollo Quiboloy to the United States.
“Quiboloy, we’re in the final stages already. Nag legal scrapping na lang kami. We’re almost ready to file that petition,” VIda said at a press briefing.
The petition will be filed with a local trial court, according to the DOJ.
In August, the United States (US) Government requested the country to extradite Quiboloy over sex trafficking and racketeering charges he is facing in the US.
“Of course, the Philippines would comply with its obligations under its extradition treaty with the United States and, of course, we are now governed by the Supreme Court rules of extradition,” he said.
Chief State Counsel Dennis Chan previously expressed confidence that the DOJ’s petition will be granted as long as the requirements under the extradition treaty are met.
Quiboloy is facing a non-bailable qualified human trafficking charge under Section 4(a) of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, as amended, before the Pasig court.
The Davao City-based religious leader is also facing charges under Section 5(b) and Section 10(a) of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act.
