A football fan has been taken to hospital after several Bodø/Glimt supporters fell through a section of the away stand during their Norwegian Eliteserien clash against Tromsø at Romssa Arena on Sunday.

The match was temporarily suspended shortly before half-time after Bodø/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin alerted the referee to the incident.

Bodø/Glimt press officer Simen Pedersen told Reuters that up to five supporters fell through the stand when the floor gave way.

One of the supporters, Andrine Moen, told Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang that the incident happened while fans were jumping and singing a supporters’ song.

“We stood and bounced to a supporter song, then the floor gave way,” Moen said.

She added that the floor cracked in two in the row in front of them, with at least two people falling through, although the full extent of the incident remained unclear.

Following the incident, the remaining Bodø/Glimt supporters were moved to other sections of the stadium before the match resumed.

The encounter was played in heavy rain, with both sides locked at 0-0 when the incident occurred.

However, Bodø/Glimt returned to action strongly after the restart, with forward Ola Brynhildsen scoring twice to secure a 2-0 victory for the visitors.

The result boosted Bodø/Glimt’s title ambitions as they continue their battle with Viking for the Eliteserien crown.

The Norwegian top-flight season is scheduled to conclude in the first week of December.

The incident has raised concerns about stadium safety, with attention likely to focus on the condition of the away stand and the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
