‘Scary Movie’ Sets Paramount+ Release Date

Translate

Scary Movie,” also known as “Scary Movie 6,” survived its theatrical run and will hit Paramount+ on Sept. 3.

Directed by Michael Tiddes, the sixth installment in the series marks the first film since “Scary Movie 2” to involve the Wayans family, who parted ways from the project amid disputes with the series’ executive producer, Dimension Films founder Bob Weinstein. The sixth entry opened with a strong $54 million at the box office and finished its run with more than $230 million globally.

Returning cast members include Marlon Wayans (Shorty Meeks), Shawn Wayans (Ray), Anna Faris (Cindy Campbell) and Regina Hall (Brenda Meeks). Faris and Hall reprised their roles after neither appeared in “Scary Movie 5.”

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Marlon Wayans looked back on the production and gave a name to the kind of movie they were trying to make: a “rebootquel.” It was back to fundamentals for the Wayans brothers as “equal opportunity offenders,” poking fun at cancel culture, safe spaces and all sorts of horror tropes. The film reunion of the Core Four is “a conversation comedically that is needed,” he said, bridging generations in a slasher that takes stabs at both the original text of the “Scream” saga and modern horror via references to recent hits like “Sinners,” “Get Out” and more. After 25 years, Marlon Wayans credited the “dismantling of the Weinstein regime,” God and the encouragement of his father for his return to the franchise.

All of the “Scary Movie” film are available to stream on Paramount+.
