World No. 14 Diana Shnaider survived a dramatic second-set collapse, fighting back in the final frame to defeat Leylah Fernandez 6-4, 5-7, 6-2 and win the Pan Pacific Open singles title at Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo on Sunday.

In a back-and-forth contest that stretched to 2 hours, 19 minutes, Shnaider appeared on the verge of a routine straight-sets victory before world No. 31 Fernandez mounted a comeback from 4-0 down in the second set.

But when the momentum swung squarely toward the Canadian early in the decider, the 22-year-old third seed from Russia found an extra gear on serve to seal her first trophy of the 2026 season just as it came to an end.
