The Nerazzurri went into this long break for international duty as joint leaders with Roma and Lazio, but injuries are beginning to take their toll.

With the Champions League coming up and so many players travelling around the globe over the past couple of weeks, squad rotation becomes necessary.

Curtis Jones was ruled out for three weeks by an adductor injury, joining John Stones on the treatment table, but Spence is on the bench for the first time since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur.

Hakan Calhanoglu returns after a lengthy lay-off with Petar Sucic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, while Federico Dimarco has recovered after missing Italy duty.

Lautaro Martinez was in Argentina for Lionel Messi’s farewell match, so Pio Esposito partners Marcus Thuram.

Parma sacked coach Carlos Cuesta despite going into the break with a crucial victory over Genoa, having earned just one point in the opening four rounds.

Gilardino was drafted in and makes his debut as coach for the club where he played from 2002 to 2005.

Pontus Almqvist suffered a calf strain on international duty, so he is out along with Abdoulaye Ndiaye and Hans Nicolussi Caviglia.

El-Bilal Toure and Giovanni Fabbian move into what looks like a 3-4-2-1 formation behind Nesta Elphege.

Inter: J Martinez; Pavard, Bisseck, Carlos Augusto; Diouf, Sucic, Calhanoglu, Mkhitaryan, Dimarco; P Esposito, Thuram

Parma: Corvi; Delprato, Diego Carlos, Troilo; Carboni, Sierro, Keita, Valeri; Touré, Fabbian; Elphege
