Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson sparks shock Oasis row with Liam Gallagher

Former Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson has sparked an online Oasis row with frontman Liam Gallagher. The actor, who played Jim McDonald on and off between 1989 and 2018, kicked off the feud after calling the Manchester band "average".

One fan wrote originally: "Alright, no sitting on the fence. Do you think Oasis are overhyped… or are they genuinely one of the best bands the world has ever seen?"

"They are distinctly average," Charlie responded, sparking Liam to write: "Like your f**king acting skills."

"Hello darling??!! You still takin a line in town?!" Charlie hit back, while Liam later said to another fan: "Actor in his f**king dreams."

Charlie seemed to take another dig at Liam while responding to a separate clip of Talking Heads, calling the New Wave group his "favourite band in the 80s and 90s".

Following his last appearance on the soap in 2018, Charlie's character was killed off screen earlier this year in Belfast.

Elsewhere, Oasis – who reformed in 2024 – have a busy period coming up, with a new documentary called Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger released in cinemas ahead of a Disney+ debut next month.

Written by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight and directed by Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace, the movie has attracted acclaim from critics.

In Digital Spy's four star review, we said: "If you somehow had no knowledge of Oasis beforehand, the movie is so celebratory that you'll come out of the movie thinking they're the most important band ever.

"That's totally fine because as Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger expertly shows, for some fans, they genuinely are the most important band ever."

Oasis are also due to embark on a new tour next year, starting in May 2027 in Glasgow.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
