What a way to start the season, eh?

PSG just can't stop winning, and despite having almost no preparation for this Super Cup, they have managed to do the job again.

Europa League winners Aston Villa did give them a good go, pushing them all the way and even dominating them at times.

But this is Luis Enrique's PSG; they just find a way.

Even 17-year-old Brian Madjo scoring his first Villa goal on debut and making history couldn't stop the Parisians. Desire Doue ultimately got the winner in teh second half, and Unai Emery's side just couldn't come back.

Anyway, that is the most amount of work I've had to do in a live blog since the World Cup, so I am knackered. Time for some sleep.

Young Villans shine

If I were an Aston Villa fan, I would be excited.

There were plenty of eyebrows raised when Brian Madjo and George Hemmings were named in the starting line-up; personally, I was a little surprised.

But both teenagers showed exactly why Unai Emery put his faith in them; they were excellent.

We have obviously spoken about Madjo, who I still can't believe is a 17-year-old - the bloke (yes, bloke) looks older than me and I'm 26 - and how much of an impact he made up top.

He obviously found the back of the net and made history in becoming the youngest Super Cup scorer ever, but it wasn't just that; he was always in the right position and could have scored more. His running and build-up play was also pretty damn good.

And then Hemmings, wow... what a baller.

I'm telling you now, this boy is destined for greatness. There is a reason he played the whole 90 minutes, and that's because he was dictating things in that midfield. The 19-year-old looks like he has been playing at this level for years.

Don't be surprised if you see him in the England squad for Euro 2028. Honestly, he is going places.

Buendia: 'We can be proud'

Emi Buendia, Aston Villa midfielder, on TNT Sports:

Obviously, to lose is not a good feeling, but I think we can feel very proud of the game we did. We compete very well, we had chances to get the result. But they get the chances, they score, and they win the game.

We were there; we were competing very well. We were pushing at the end of teh first half; Brian scored a very good goal, and we went into half-time believing in ourselves. In the second half, we showed our character, but they took the advantage, and they scored the goal.

On Brian Madjo:

I tried to help him; he's young. But he's got very good development, and with his characteristics I can help him with the opportunity to score goals.

On the change in their squad:

Football is like this; there are changes. But the structure and the philosophy the manager and the club want to keep is clear.

'PSG just have that know-how'

Ashley Young, former Aston Villa winger, on BBC Radio 5 Live:

PSG went about it in the right way, they had some tired players towards the end but to see them go about it the way they did was brilliant. They've got players that have been there and won big competitions, they've got that know-how.

Well, you will have to skip the goal given by Omar Artan, but after a good few seconds, you will be able to see Desire Doue win the Super Cup for PSG.

It was a superbly timed run by Doue in the end, even if everybody, including me, thought he was miles off.

And a lovely finish at the end of it all.

No crazy celebrations

It's not quite the party we saw in Budapest back in May.

PSG aren't going crazy with their trophy celebrations; in fact, they are barely celebrating at all.

Just a few smiles, hugs, and a group photo in front of the travelling fans. A little more oomph than the pre-season trophy lifts, but not much more.

That's because these lads know this is just the start; the real prizes they want their hands on are still months and months away.

The question is: is this the first trophy of many this season?

Marquinhos must get tired of this, surely?

Well, at least his arms must ache from teh silly number of times he has lifted silverware in the air.

Clearly not, going by these scenes, though. Beaming ear-to-ear, the PSG skipper dances over to his team-mates after collecting the trophy and thrusts it into the air.

The confetti rains into the air, Queen's We Are The Champions plays over the speakers, and the party has started.

I don't know what I was thinking; that feeling must never get old.

Much changed Villa impress

The Aston Villa players looked gutted at full-time, really gutted.

However, I reckon once the dust settles tonight, they will be happy with the account they gave of themselves. Well, they certainly should be.

Considering how different this team is to the one that actually won the Europa League final, they put in a superb performance to push the back-to-back Champions League winners all the way.

John McGinn led by example; the youngsters certainly shone, and former fringe players put in a great shift.

A positive sign of things to come.

Doue: 'We want to win everything this season again'

This is amazing. To win this trophy is amazing. This is really difficult. To get here, you have to win the Champions League, and we did that again.

Now we win the second Super Cup. We want more. We want to win everything this season again. We can always improve.

PSG's dominance continues

PSG are just relentless winners.

Most of this team have barely just got back from their holidays and are probably yet to unpack after the World Cup.

But here they are, in their first game back, lifting another European trophy. It's quite mental, to be honest.

Were they at their best? Obviously not. But as they always manage to do, they got the job done.

You sense they are the team to beat yet again.
