On Friday, Liverpool's majority owners Fenway Sports Group announced the sale of a minority stake in the club a consortium including Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Savarin. Former Queens Park Rangers owner Amit Bhatia is expected to become the club's new vice-chairman as part of the deal.
Romanian swimmer David Popovici completed another sprint double at the European Aquatics Championships, adding a 200m freestyle title to the gold he had won in the 100m earlier in the week. French star Léon Marchand, meanwhile, was back in action and recorded the fastest time in the 200m butterfly final.
In the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, Switzerland's Audrey Werro beat home favourite Keely Hodgkinson in the 800m final to claim her first continental title. Friday's evening session also saw Italian Gianmarco Tamberi win his fourth high jump gold on the European stage, while Norway's Karsten Warholm also successfully defended his title for the third time in the 400m hurdles final.
