Marvel Is Resurrecting X-Men Evolution For Big New Crossover Series

Like Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers, the X-Men have been the focus of multiple animated Marvel TV shows. Among them is X-Men: Evolution, which aired on the Kids’ WB programming block from 2000 to 2003. This version depicted the majority of its featured mutant superheroes and villains as teenagers, and the series earned positive critical reception during its four seasons on the air.

Unlike X-Men: The Animated Series, which was followed by the X-Men ’97 revival in 2024, the underrated X-Men: Evolution has never been revisited since it ended in 2003. However, that will soon change in the pages of a new Marvel one-shot issue. Not only that, the Evolution incarnation of the team will face off against an X-Men team from another corner of the Marvel multiverse.

X-Men: Evolution Is Being Pitted Against X-Men ’92

As reported by IGN, X-Men ’92: Incursions #1 will see the X-Men ’92 versions of heroes like Wolverine, Beast, Jean Grey, and Rogue battle their X-Men Evolution counterparts, i.e. “the younger versions of themselves who still have hope for Xavier’s dream,” in an effort to save their world. Although the X-Men ’92 iteration of the superhero team is inspired by the one from X-Men: The Animated Series and X-Men ’97, they are not the exact same versions of those characters. Instead, they hail from Earth-15730, and have been the subject of three previous series.

Written by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost, with art by Salva Espin, X-Men ’92: Incursions #1 is part of a series of Incursions one-shots being published over the next several months, all of which takes place before 2015’s Secret Wars. The others include X-Men: Incursions #1 (which delivers a “Days of Future Past” and House of M crossover), Spider-Man: Incursions #1, Fantastic Four: Incursions #1, and Avengers: Incursions #1. This will mark X-Men: Evolution’s first appearance within a mainstream Marvel title, though a comic book series directly tied to the original TV show ran for nine issues.

Evolution Is The Latest Animated Marvel TV Show To Be Revisited In The Comics

Although the X-Men: Evolution characters are only returning for one issue rather than a limited or ongoing series, it nonetheless marks another instance of Marvel revisiting one of its older animated shows on the printed page. Spider-Man ’94, which revisited the Spider-Man: The Animated Series universe, ran for five issues from September 2025 to January 2026. Spider-Man ’94 Annual #1 will also be released this December, taking place before the main comic series to resolve the TV show’s cliffhanger ending from 1998.

Additionally, the current Disney+ shows X-Men ’97 and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man both have tie-in comic book series. X-Men ’97: Season Two has chronicled what happened between Seasons 1 and 2 of the TV show, and the first Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comic book series covered Peter Parker’s life before the show began. An interquel Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man comic book series launches in December ahead of Season 2’s Disney+ premiere in January.
