At a time when fans are waiting for the next actor to officially be announced as the new James Bond, screenwriter Steven Knight has dropped a major update.Adding to the buzz around the next 007 film, Knight confirmed in an interview that the first draft of the script for the highly anticipated 26th instalment is now complete.

Steven Knight confirms Bond script draft is done

Speaking to Zoe Ball on the UK’s Greatest Hits Radio, Knight was asked whether he had completed a draft of the Bond screenplay. Rather than answering verbally, the 'Peaky Blinders' creator responded by 'silently nodding' states a report on Variety. When asked if that meant the draft was done, Knight confirmed the news and expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "I'm absolutely loving doing it. It's an honour to be asked.

And believe it's going to be so good. I really do believe it's going to be amazing."The acclaimed screenwriter described taking on the Bond franchise as being "more than bucket list", adding that he felt he was "doing my duty for King and country by taking this thing on."

Steven Knight hints Bond actor may already be chosen

Knight’s latest comments come days after he suggested that he knows who has been chosen to play the new James Bond. During an appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today, Knight was asked whether he had written the screenplay with the selected actor in mind, or whether he was instead working from his understanding of the character.

“It’s a bit of both,” he replied.Going on to elaborate, he said, "It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor."

Gary Oldman fuels Jack Lowden Bond casting buzz

The casting speculation intensified earlier in the week after Gary Oldman appeared to reveal that a decision had already been made. Oldman, who stars alongside Jack Lowden in the Apple TV+ series 'Slow Horses', claimed that the producers had chosen the next Bond actor but had yet to make the news public.

“We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet.

So my fingers are crossed for Jack,” Oldman said.Lowden has frequently been mentioned among the favourites to take up the mantle of the British spy.

Denis Villeneuve to direct the Bond reboot

The upcoming film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, who is taking over the franchise for its next chapter following Daniel Craig’s final appearance as 007 in 'No Time to Die'.
