Ramayana AI dubbing row

The film’s international premiere comes amid a debate over the use of artificial intelligence in its multilingual release. Film reviewer Parth Chaturvedi has raised concerns over reports that some critics cancelled their Ramayana premiere screenings because they believed the film had been dubbed using AI.

He shared via X, “Reports that some critics have cancelled their Ramayana premiere screenings over the misconception that the film is AI-dubbed are deeply concerning. The film has been dubbed by real artists. Brahma AI has been used only for lip-syncing, not for dubbing the dialogues. @SonyPictures must urgently launch an international campaign to clarify this distinction. With growing resistance to AI-generated content in cinema, misinformation of this nature could seriously affect the film’s reception. The audience deserves to know the truth before forming an opinion. @malhotra_namit.”

“Dubbing is done by dubbing artists and AI is only used for lip syncing.”

Director Nitesh Tiwari addressed the speculation, clarifying that the voices in the film were recorded by dubbing artists and AI was used only to match the characters’ lip movements to the dialogue.

In a clip from the event, he said, “No AI has been used in dubbing. Dubbing is done by dubbing artists and AI is only used for lip syncing.”
