Police search for missing man in High Country

The police helicopter is being used in the search around Harrietville, Bright and Mount Hotham.

Police are searching for an 85-year-old man who went missing from Harrietville in Victoria's north-east last on Sunday night.

Jacobus, also known as John, was last seen leaving the Harrietville Hotel shortly after 10pm.

John, whose last name has not been released, had been at the hotel with his wife.

The pair have a regular routine where she walks the 200 metres south along the Great Alpine Road to home while he drives.

John was driving the couple's silver 2007 Toyota LandCruiser, registration WBD-077, but when his wife arrived home, John and the car were not there.

Police and family members are concerned for John's welfare as he does not usually travel far by himself and was expected to go directly home.

Search continues

Local police have searched around Harrietville and Bright, including local tracks.

The Police Air Wing has also searched around Mount Hotham and along the Great Alpine Road, while friends of John have also joined the search.

Police have released an image of John, who is described as Caucasian, with a slim build and about 170 centimetres tall.

He walks hunched over and uses a walking stick, and is unable to walk long distances.

He was last seen wearing a checked shirt, a vest and pants, and may have been wearing a hat.

His Toyota LandCruiser has a font nudge bar and two spotlights.

Police have asked anyone who has seen John or his car to contact Triple Zero (000).
