Melaka's WRUR initiative repairs and builds over 200 homes worth RM7.8 mil

ALOR GAJAH: The Melaka government has repaired 136 houses and built 77 new homes costing over RM7.8 million under the Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme across all 28 state constituencies over the past two years.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the project, carried out through the Melaka Housing Board (LPM), was complemented by more than 84 other local initiatives involving RM4.2 million in allocations via the District and Land Office.

Additionally, 2,300 recipients received direct aid totalling RM345,000 from the Social Welfare Department through the WRUR programme across the state.

"We also implemented 1,981 programmes and activities, recording almost 100,000 public attendances throughout the WRUR programme across all state constituencies in Melaka," he said.

He said this after officiating the closing ceremony of the Melaka WRUR programme, the Tanjung Bidara Beach Festival, and the Melaka Straits and River Arts Festival (FSSSM) 2026 here last night.

Rauf, who is also the Tanjung Bidara assemblyman, said the state received 5,170 public complaints during the period, with 3,789 or 73.29 per cent resolved. The remaining issues will be addressed promptly.

Reflecting on his three years leading the state government, he said 212 development projects worth RM41.16 million were implemented in his constituency.

These included upgrading works at the Masjid Tanah Health Clinic costing nearly RM800,000, and a RM1.3 million project to install a suction tank and pump system connected to the existing Tanjung Bidara reservoir.

A coastal erosion control project in Pengkalan Balak was also completed involving an allocation of RM21.5 million, he said.

Current ongoing projects include the RM500,000 Pasir Gembur Open Hall, an RM800,000 classroom extension using the Industrialised Building System (IBS) at SK Pengkalan Balak, and a RM1.3 million roof upgrade at Al-Jawahir Mosque.

"From healthcare, education, religious affairs, water supply, and community facilities to protecting coastal areas, we are completing projects one by one according to the people's priorities.

"Physical development alone is not enough if we do not safeguard the people's welfare. Therefore, RM11.94 million has been channelled to 2,512 recipients as part of my responsibility to ease the burden of the people of Tanjung Bidara," he said. — BERNAMA
