Old Videos Of Mother-Son Who Died Amid An Argument Over iPhone EMI Surface

Translate

Two undated videos of 18-year-old Kunal Chandwade and his mother, Sangeeta Chandwade, have surfaced on social media following their tragic deaths at a hill in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

In one of the videos, Kunal was seen having tea with his mother, while the other clip showed him washing her feet and taking her blessings.

Kunal, Sangeeta and his 48-year-old father, Murlidhar Chandgude, died on Friday afternoon after a fight over an iPhone ended in a sequence of fatal falls from a hilltop in Kohdya Dongar.

The tragic chain of events began around 10 am when the teenager trekked up the hill as he was upset following an argument with his parents over the EMIs for his new mobile phone.

He had bought an iPhone and had been asking his family for money to pay the EMIs, according to police officials.

Anxious about his safety, Murlidhar and Sangeeta followed him, along with other locals, to the hilltop to reason with him and persuade him to return home.

After about three hours, Murlidhar climbed up to where Kunal stood and attempted to physically pull him back from the edge. In the process, they lost their balance and fell into a 250-foot gorge. Witnessing her husband and son fall, heartbroken Sangeeta also jumped from the hill seconds later.

Residents of the city's Zalta Phata area, all three died on the spot.

Video Shows Mother's Desperate Attempts To Stop Suicidal Teen

A new video has emerged showing Sangeeta begging, pleading, and stepping forward to try to pull Kunal back. The clip showed Kunal standing on the edge of the hill as Sangeeta sits on the ground just a few feet away, crying and trying to convince him to walk towards her and away from danger.

She then prostrates herself before her son but, when that doesn't work, gets up and walks towards him, extending her hand.

As Kunal appeared to take a step towards the edge, she walked back in a hurry.

She then walked to another edge of the hill, as if threatening to jump off herself, but was pulled back by some people standing nearby.

Officials said Sangeeta had repeatedly assured him that they would help solve whatever problems he had, but he did not listen.

"Mom, no one listens to me. I have no interest in living. There is no solution to my life; nothing is going to get better," he told her.
