Indonesia, UK launch health partnership platform Tangguh+

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Health and the UK Government launched the UK-Indonesia health partnership platform called Tangguh+ to strengthen health cooperation, while supporting Indonesia's health transformation priorities.
In a statement received here on Wednesday, the Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono noted the platform serves as a coordination hub for governments, hospitals, universities, research institutions, industry players, and international partners.
Harbuwono emphasized the Indonesia-UK partnership must yield tangible benefits for the public rather than stopping at mere bilateral agreements and meetings.
"The real value of a strategic partnership lies not just in the engagements and agreements we sign, but also in our ability to bring together the right expertise, institutions, and resources to deliver sustainable outcomes," he said at the launch of Tangguh+ in Jakarta on Tuesday (Oct 13).
The cooperation is expected to strengthen health systems, build healthcare workforce capacity, and enhance resilience against future health threats.

Harbuwono explained the UK-Indonesia health cooperation is anchored in a memorandum of understanding signed between the Indonesia's Ministry of Health and the UK Department of Health and Social Care on May 20, 2025.
The partnership spans seven key areas, i.e. healthcare services, disease surveillance and control, health science and innovation, healthcare workforce development, clinical research, digital health, and shifting the focus of care from treatment to prevention.
Through Tangguh+, he added, Indonesia and the UK will enhance collaboration across three primary pillars, which are healthcare workforce development, technological innovation, and health security.
The cooperation also covers strengthening health systems and infrastructure, research and innovation, as well as public-private partnerships.

The approach is expected to support equitable access to quality healthcare for communities across Indonesia.
Harbuwono expressed hope that Tangguh+ would be able to bridge the gap between commitments and tangible results while providing sustainable impact on the communities.
Meanwhile, British Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Dominic Jermey reaffirmed the UK's commitment to support Indonesia's health transformation through collaboration involving both governments, the UK National Health Service (NHS), universities, research institutions, and the private sector.
The Director General for Global Issues at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Melinda Bohannon, remarked the partnership is built on shared interests, expertise exchange, and mutual responsibility in tackling global health challenges.
