CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — Police arrested two suspects shortly after a shooting incident involving two motorcycle riders in Victoria town on Tuesday morning.

The Victoria Municipal Police Station said the shootout occurred around 9:10 a.m. in Barangay San Narciso.

The motorcycle riders were allegedly approached by two men who drew out guns and fired at them, according to police.

The riders evaded the attack and sought police assistance, authorities said. 

Police tracked the suspects who reportedly fled toward a nearby rice field where they attempted to hide.

Responding police officers arrested both suspects, who are now in police custody, Victoria police said. 

The incident has been classified as a frustrated murder case, although police said the appropriate charges would depend on the evidence gathered and the findings of the investigation.

Victoria police urged witnesses and individuals with information about the shooting to coordinate with authorities and appealed to the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

“Hindi natin hahayaan manaig ang karahasan sa ating komunidad (We will not allow violence to spread in our neighborhood),” Victoria police chief Maj. Roldan said. Police did not immediately release the identities of the suspects and victims./coa
