Bali expands market access for designers using traditional fabrics

Gianyar, Bali (ANTARA) - The Bali Provincial Regional National Crafts Council (Dekranasda) is expanding market access for local designers who use traditional woven fabrics through a fashion show titled "Wastra Hitakara" in Gianyar District, officials said Wednesday.

The event aims to promote traditional Balinese textiles sustainably while building broader national and international market appeal for local craft industries.

"We hope our cultural heritage can continue to be preserved sustainably," said Putri Suastini Koster, Chair of the Bali Provincial Dekranasda, during the event at Balai Budaya Gianyar.

The initiative expands on regional fashion programs by pairing local designers with small and medium industries to craft contemporary apparel using endek, a traditional Balinese woven fabric.

Beyond showcasing textiles and traditional silver handicrafts, the program supports a wide creative ecosystem, including weavers, tailors, choreographers, local models, and musicians who composed traditional scores for the runway.

Gianyar District Dekranasda Chair Surya Adnyani Mahayastra emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is critical to elevating the quality and competitiveness of regional artisanal products.

"Through the Dekranasda Bali Fashion Show, we see excellent opportunities to introduce traditional textiles and local handicraft products to a wider audience," Mahayastra noted, adding that growing market demand will deliver greater economic value to local communities.
