Free M6 motorway section opens to help drivers avoid flood-hit routes

BANGKOK — 6 October 2026, The Department of Highways has opened a section of the M6 motorway free of charge in both directions to provide motorists with an alternative route around flood-affected areas.

The Motorway Division began trial operations on the Bang Pa-in–Nakhon Ratchasima motorway, covering the Bang Pa-in–Hin Kong section, at 18:00 on 6 October.

The free service will run until 24:00 on 11 October, or until the flood situation improves. Authorities will closely monitor conditions and adjust traffic management measures as necessary to minimize disruption to motorists.

The move follows the Transport Ministry’s policy to facilitate travel and ease the impact of flooding on the public by providing an alternative route to areas affected by flooding.

As the M6 is still undergoing preparations ahead of its full opening, the Department of Highways urged motorists to plan their journeys carefully, drive with caution and strictly follow traffic signs and instructions from officials.

For travel information, motorists can call the Department of Highways hotline at 1586, press 6, free of charge on all networks, 24 hours a day. Traffic updates are also available through DOH Highway Radio at https://www.highwaytraffic.go.th/radio.
