BENIN CITY: Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Dennis Idahosa, have felicitated the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, on his 92nd birthday.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Ebojele, Governor Okpebholo described Igbinedion’s contributions to business, aviation, education, broadcasting and community development as a testament to faith, vision and commitment to society.

Okpebholo said: “At 92, we celebrate not merely longevity, but an extraordinary legacy of faith, vision, enterprise, service, and generosity.”

He noted that for decades, Igbinedion had invested in education, healthcare infrastructure, community development and humanitarian initiatives, describing such contributions as evidence of a commitment to measuring success beyond personal gain.

According to the governor, “true greatness is not measured only by what we achieve, but also by the institutions we build, the opportunities we create, the lives we touch, and the positive legacy we leave for generations yet unborn.”

Okpebholo identified the number of lives touched and transformed by the Esama over the years as one of his most significant contributions.

He said Igbinedion’s contributions had transcended his immediate community and brought honour and distinction to Edo State and Nigeria.

Similarly, Idahosa, in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Friday Aghedo, described Igbinedion as a foremost entrepreneur and philanthropist whose name had become associated with education, media, community development and the promotion of Edo’s cultural heritage.

The Deputy Governor said Igbinedion’s pioneering investments in the private sector, establishment of institutions and interventions in the lives of individuals and communities demonstrated the values of vision, resilience and generosity.

He also acknowledged the Esama’s contribution to promoting Benin and Edo State on the global stage, describing his journey from humble beginnings to becoming one of Nigeria’s prominent entrepreneurs as a story of determination and achievement.

Idahosa said: “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Edo State, I warmly congratulate our father, the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, on the occasion of his 92nd birthday.

“Your life has been a remarkable testament to vision, enterprise, resilience and service to humanity. Your contributions to education, business, media, philanthropy and community development have left enduring footprints in Edo State and beyond.

“At 92, you remain a towering personality whose wealth of experience, wisdom and accomplishments continue to inspire generations.

“We are proud of your contributions to the growth and development of our dear state and Nigeria.”
