3 arrested after Alza drives against traffic to evade police in Johor

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Three men were arrested and another is being sought after they allegedly drove against traffic on the Second Link Expressway to evade a police check.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha said the three suspects comprised a Malaysian and two Filipinos.
He said the incident occurred about 2.30am when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) unit was conducting crime prevention patrols along Jalan Persiaran SILC in Gelang Patah.
Police spotted a Perodua Alza carrying four men behaving suspiciously and ordered the driver to stop for a check.
The driver sped off and entered the Second Link Expressway against traffic.
He later abandoned the car at Jalan Suria 2 in Masai and fled on foot. Police arrested three suspects, while the fourth remains at large, Radin Ramlan said.
A search of the car found a cable cutter, which police seized along with the vehicle and three mobile phones.
Urine tests found that two suspects were positive for methamphetamine.
Investigations are ongoing to locate the remaining suspect and determine whether the men were involved in other criminal activities. Preliminary findings suggest they intended to steal cables, Radin Ramlan said in a statement yesterday.
A three-minute video showing the car fleeing the police check, believed to have been recorded by a customer at a nearby restaurant, went viral on social media.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code.
