Sydney Sweeney's "magnificent" horror with "jaw-dropping" ending is now streaming on the BBC

Immaculate, the 2024 horror film starring Sydney Sweeney, is now streaming on BBC iPlayer after airing on BBC Two last night.

Set in an Italian convent, the film follows a young nun who thinks she has found her heavenly purpose as a modern-day Virgin Mary after strangely falling pregnant.

But she soon discovers that there are some incredibly dark secrets lurking just beneath the surface, both physically and metaphorically.

The film did decently well with critics, currently sitting at a score of 71% positive on Rotten Tomatoes from 213 reviews.

TheWrap wrote that "Sydney Sweeney is a revelation in Michael Mohan's magnificent horror creation" and said that the Euphoria actor had delivered her "greatest performance yet".

The New York Times said: "Immaculate is a scare-fest with a plucky heroine, an irreverent hot-button twist and just enough narrative ambiguity to give viewers something to argue about."

Even the reviews that didn't like the film overall praised that moment (that we won't spoil here), such as when Rolling Stone said that the film was "passionately ridiculous" but that you should "make sure you stick around for the end" for the "jaw-dropping twist".

Looking ahead, Sweeney has another horror movie in the pipeline, with a "bold reimagining" of classic gothic horror story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which was most famously turned into a film with Tim Burton behind the camera and Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci starring.

Not only is she starring in it, but she'll be producing it through her company too.

She's also set to star in a movie adaptation of one of 2025's most acclaimed video games, Split Fiction, which follows two authors who get transported to the worlds they created, and must work together to find a way out.
