PM Anwar expresses deep sadness over the tragic train collision in Spain

Translate

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives in the train collision in Spain.

In a Facebook post, he said Malaysia stood in solidarity with the people of Spain at this difficult time.

"Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones, and we wish the injured a swift recovery," he said.

Anwar also paid tribute to the emergency personnel and others working tirelessly at the scene.

"On behalf of the government and people of Malaysia, I extend our deepest condolences to Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, the government and people of Spain, and especially to the families of the victims," Prime Minister said.

Yesterday, media reports said the death toll from Wednesday's high-speed train collision in central Spain has more than doubled to at least 64 people, according to the regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, making it even deadlier than a devastating rail accident near Adamuz in January.

However, the Malaysian Embassy in Madrid has yet to receive confirmation of any Malaysians affected by the collision involving two high-speed passenger trains.
