Indonesia taps voice-over industry to drive creative economy growth

Translate

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Creative Economy Ministry is reaffirming its commitment to developing the national voice-over industry by capitalizing on rising demand for voice actors in films, animation, gaming, advertising, and digital content.

Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said the government had launched the Wonder Voice of Indonesia (WVI) program, which has generated over Rp2.5 billion (around US$139,000) in economic value through collaborations between its graduates and more than 300 brands.

In a statement received here on Wednesday, he also highlighted the inclusion of voice-over as one of the 21 creative economy sub-sectors outlined in Indonesia's Creative Economy Master Plan for the 2025–2045 period.

Harsya added that the ministry is partnering with Voice Institute Indonesia and several educational institutions to organize the 2026 edition of WVI, whose kick-off event attracted more than 250 participants from diverse backgrounds.

He expressed hope that the initiative would help nurture talent while creating employment and collaboration opportunities for Indonesian voice actors.

Launched in 2022, the WVI program was designed to provide a platform for local voice actors to develop their skills and expand their professional opportunities.

The program has led to the development of online and offline learning curricula, the organization of various preliminary events and radio dramas, and the establishment of voice-acting communities across the country.

By 2024, WVI graduates had collaborated with more than 50 brands and institutions. The program drew over 7,200 registrants and received coverage from more than 30 media outlets the following year.

These developments led to the establishment of the Association of Indonesian Voice Actors (Aspesnesia) and several regional communities in East Java, West Java, Jakarta, and North Sumatra.

One WVI graduate, Euis "Unya" Handayani, said the program had paved her way to becoming a professional voice actor, voice director, and talent development mentor.

She noted that the program's mission extended beyond skills development, as it also aims to help voice-acting talents expand their professional networks and access broader employment opportunities within the creative industry.
