Police arrest suspect in connection to pair of Monticello synagogue break-ins

A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with back-to-back synagogue burglaries in the Village of Monticello, Sullivan County, New York, according to its police department.

Local law enforcement reports indicate that Adalis Rodriguez-Valentin was taken into custody following an early morning response to a break-in in progress last Thursday. Police statements show that officers rushed to the Pine Knoll Bungalow Colony at 198 Forestburgh Road at approximately 2 a.m. after surveillance systems captured two individuals entering the synagogue and moving through the grounds.

Responding officers spotted the suspects shortly after arriving, which prompted a foot pursuit, the police department stated. Authorities added that Rodriguez-Valentin attempted to hide beneath a building before officers located her and took her into custody. Her alleged accomplice managed to evade capture despite a subsequent search conducted with the assistance of the New York State Police, the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, and a K-9 unit.

Suspect linked to earlier synagogue break-in by security camera footage

Investigators revealed that a review of surveillance footage from an earlier incident last Tuesday successfully linked Rodriguez-Valentin to a separate break-in at a synagogue located at 70 Wood Avenue.

Court records and police department summaries confirm that Rodriguez-Valentin has been charged with two counts of third-degree burglary.

Following her arraignment in Monticello Justice Court, she was released on her own recognizance. Local law enforcement emphasized that the investigation remains active and the search for the second suspect is ongoing.
