Indonesia targets 3.1% handicraft market share in Canada by 2027

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Ministry of Trade aims to expand the market share of domestic handicraft products in Canada to 3.1 percent by 2027, up from the current level of roughly 2.1 percent.
Director General of National Export Development at the ministry Fajarini Puntodewi said this target is backed by a partnership with the Trade Facilitation Office (TFO) Canada under the Trade for Resilient, Inclusive, and Sustainable Economic Growth (TRISEG) project.
"Our market share in this sector currently stands at around 2.1 percent. Next year, we are targeting it to reach 3.1 percent," Puntodewi said during the launch of the TRISEG project here on Tuesday.
Puntodewi noted that the room for expansion remains vast, given Indonesia’s relatively modest footprint in the Canadian market. Based on 2023 trade figures, Indonesia's handicraft exports to Canada stood at approximately US$26 million.
Citing an assessment by TFO Canada, she emphasized that Indonesian handicrafts, including furniture, are considered highly competitive in Canada.
"They (TFO) see strong potential in what Indonesia has to offer," she added.
According to Ministry of Trade data, Indonesia’s handicraft exports to Canada reached US$8.41 million in 2025, a 21.8 percent increase compared to 2024.
Growth accelerated further through August 2026, with export values reaching US$8.15 million — a 46.5 percent year-on-year surge compared to the same period in the previous year.
Meanwhile, Canada’s total handicraft imports stood at US$700.7 million in 2025. Hence, Indonesia captured only about 1.2 percent of that total.
