The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it has rescued 49 minors involved in cyber threat-related cases as of September, following recent fatal shootings in schools.
At a press conference, PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the organization has strengthened its coordination with public and private schools, social welfare offices, families, and local communities to address threats against children.
“As of September, we have rescued 49 minors in cases involving cyber threats. These interventions show the value of timely information sharing and close coordination,” he said.
“By working together, we can respond to concerns early, provide the necessary assistance, and help maintain a safe and supportive environment for our students, as well as our teachers and school personnel,” he added.
Nartatez said the PNP has issued corresponding circulars and police operations directives to enhance its engagement with schools and other sectors.
He said police personnel are working closely with school officials and responding to threats involving students, including cases where minors themselves approach authorities for assistance.
Nartatez said the PNP is also continuing its efforts to identify and engage individuals suspected of online grooming.
He said police operations have resulted not only in the rescue of minors but also in the seizure of firearms that could potentially be used to harm victims.
The PNP chief assured teachers, parents, and students that police would continue strengthening its efforts to protect minors. —AOL, GMA News
