Guy Ritchie's thriller with Benedict Cumberbatch and James Norton gets a must-see teaser

A first teaser for Guy Ritchie's upcoming star-studded revenge thriller Wife & Dog has just been released, offering a closer look at the succession battle unravelling the Fairbanks, an aristocratic British family led by patriarch Anthony Hopkins.

Starring Benedict Cumberbatch as a man on a mission, the trailer sees Hopkins' character spinning a story for his daughter, played by Rosamund Pike.

As the family head tells of a man left for dead in a pit who survived by digging all the way to hell, the clip cuts to Cumberbatch's character as he kills his way to the top.

"And what did he find in hell, Daddy?" Pike's character asks, to which Fairbanks replies: "He found me," hinting at a possibly fatal showdown awaiting the two men.

Also starring in Wife & Dog are House of the Dragon stars James Norton and Paddy Considine, Shōgun's Cosmo Jarvis, and The Crown's Pip Torrens.

Previously speaking about Wife & Dog, Cumberbatch teased it's a "unique" work from Ritchie.

"There are definitely elements to his genre, but I don't know. I think he's kind of augmented it with a really new flavour," the actor said of the film, comparing it with Ritchie's previous works including The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and Wrath of Man.

"I don't really want to give much away, but it's quite unique for him. It's quite unique. It's a very soulful piece," Cumberbatch continued.

The star also weighed in on playing against type in "the kind of geezer Tom Hardy, Jason Statham type role", saying it was "a blast".

Originally slated for an October release, the film written and directed by Ritchie has now moved to February 2027.

The filmmaker has recently returned to Netflix with a second season of hit crime drama The Gentlemen. The series stars Theo James as a duke who reluctantly inherits the weed empire his late father had set up on his estate and gets swept up in the thrills of a life of crime.

Wife & Dog is released on 19 February 2027.
