Indonesia sees potentials in Chinese micro-dramas to boost local MSMEs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Jakarta Tourisindo (Jakarta Experience Board/JXB) sees Chinese film projects in Jakarta as a strategic opportunity to boost micro, small and medium enterprises, its business and operations director, Devin Pranata, said.

JXB is a Jakarta provincial government-owned company focused on tourism, hospitality, the creative economy and urban beautification.

“Collaborating with production houses in Jakarta and international partners, including China, can increase revenues for production houses and local MSMEs,” Pranata said.

Responding to ANTARA after the Guangdong Meets the Asia-Pacific – China Finds: Guangdong Goods, Global Reach Indonesia Promotion Event o Tuesday, Pranata said film crews create demand for locally sourced goods.

Large productions increase demand for local food and handicrafts while giving Indonesian products wider international exposure, he said.

Showcasing Jakarta as a filming location could also support tourism by encouraging international visitors to explore the city’s attractions and stay longer.

JXB signed an agreement last month with Guangdong’s creative industry to cooperate on film productions in Jakarta, Pranata said.

“We have also secured several other collaborative MoUs this year, particularly in the cinematic sector, allowing us to further explore and develop Jakarta’s film industry,” he added.

Chinese Embassy Cultural Counselor Wang Siping said Guangdong is among China’s most active provinces in promoting investment ties with Indonesia.

He said stronger cultural ties between Guangdong and Indonesia were creating more opportunities for people-to-people exchanges.

Wang also welcomed a recent agreement between China’s state-owned Southern Media Group, or Nanfang Media Group, and Indonesia’s national news agency, ANTARA.

He said the two organizations would use broadcast exchanges to promote development opportunities, scientific and technological innovation, and cultural tourism in their respective countries.

ANTARA News Director Virgandhi Prayudantoro also attended the event and welcomed the promotion, saying such activities could strengthen cooperation and ties between Indonesia and China.
