Frankie Pangilinan opens up on romance with non-showbiz BF: ‘He’s just wonderful’

Translate

Frankie Pangilinan opened up for the first time about her non-showbiz boyfriend Daniel Laurel, revealing that her mom, Megastar Sharon Cuneta, was the most “excited” about the relationship.

Frankie spoke about this during her interview with Ogie Diaz, which was shared on the latter’s YouTube channel on Sunday, Sept. 6. Her love life came up during the conversation as Frankie talked about how Cuneta had always been cool with her having crushes while growing up.

Diaz asked Frankie if she is currently in a relationship, to which she responded, “Meron po [akong boyfriend].”

Frankie then laughed off earlier reports referring to Laurel as her “rumored boyfriend,” noting that she did not issue an outright confirmation of the relationship at the time because no one had reached out to ask.

Asked if she had entertained other suitors before Laurel, she said, “Busy din po ako sa New York noon with school.”

“And I think I’ve spoken about it before na parang, obviously nung nag-college ako, parang feeling mo at first, ‘I have freedom so may mami-meet na ako dito.’ But I think, from the beginning… I know I would come back,” she continued. “So parang ayoko naman na ma-in love ako dito tapos sini-set up ko lang ‘yung sarili ko pang-heartache.”

She also underscored that romance was not a priority for her back then.

“School was my focus and my friends mean so much to me na medyo puno na rin ‘yung buhay ko no’n e,” she stated. “So, when I moved back, ayun, parang feeling ko, ‘OK, this seems like—’ and also he’s [Laurel] just wonderful.”

Speaking about how her parents reacted to her being in a relationship, she said, “I think, more than anything, excited lang po sila. Si Mommy more than Dad, kasi si Dad kailangan medyo strict pa.”

Frankie further admitted that Cuneta feared she had set her standards so high that no one would be able to meet them.

“I don’t think it was super high naman. Sa akin kasi character ‘yung pinakaimportante and I didn’t feel like anything was right or I didn’t want to compromise hanggang I found actually the right person for me,” Frankie said. /ra
