CityU vows ‘zero tolerance’ as orientation ‘disco night’ video triggers probe

Hong Kong’s City University has launched an investigation into an alleged indecent incident during a student-led orientation activity after a video surfaced showing a half-naked man carrying a woman wearing only a bra and shorts.

The university issued a statement on Wednesday pledging “zero tolerance” for improper conduct, after a social media clip appeared to show intimate behaviour among individuals believed to be students during what the video caption described as a “disco night”.

The clip has since been removed from Instagram, where it was first posted, but continues to circulate on Threads.

CityU’s student union council also convened a special meeting to address the “improper” acts during orientation activities organised by its Management Sciences Society.

The university expressed “grave concern” over the “serious mismanagement and inappropriate behaviour by certain individuals” at the event.

“We are also deeply concerned about the unnecessary disturbance experienced by participating students. A Student Discipline Panel has been established without delay,” it said.

It added that the university maintained a “zero-tolerance” policy towards any improper conduct and would take disciplinary action according to the seriousness of the incident.
