East Nusa Tenggara police transfer case against four Bangladeshis

Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - East Nusa Tenggara police have handed over to immigration authorities a case involving four Bangladeshi nationals suspected of entering Indonesia illegally.

The East Nusa Tenggara Police's water and air police director, Senior Commissioner Irwan Deffi Nasution, said the four were arrested at 2:30 a.m. on October 4 in Oematnunu Village, West Kupang Subdistrict, Kupang District.

"They were detained for entering the country illegally without undergoing immigration checks," he said here Tuesday.

The four Bangladeshis were identified as Taijul Islam Madbar, MD Sagor Bepary, MD Babul and MD Norul Amin. Police said they had entered Indonesia without passing through an official immigration checkpoint.

Investigators from the directorate's law enforcement subdirectorate transferred the case to East Nusa Tenggara Immigration Office chief Saroha Manullang in Kupang.

They are suspected of violating Article 113, read with Article 9(1) of the 2011 Immigration Law, as adjusted under item 83 of Appendix I to the 2026 Criminal Penalty Adjustment Law.

"After completing our investigation, we handed the case to immigration authorities for further processing within their jurisdiction and under applicable regulations," he said.

He said the directorate would step up patrols in East Nusa Tenggara's waters to prevent illegal entry by foreign nationals and the smuggling of people and goods by sea.

He also urged coastal residents to report suspicious activity, particularly suspected attempts by foreign nationals to enter or leave Indonesia through unofficial routes, to the directorate.
