Man, 92, dies after being hit by van as motorist, 72, arrested for death by dangerous driving

A pensioner has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a 92-year-old was fatally struck in south London.

On Thursday, September 24, at around 2.55pm, police were called to reports of a collision between a van and a pedestrian on Curnick’s Lane, West Norwood.

Police and paramedics attended the scene, where a 92-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead. The victim's next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the van, a 72-year-old man, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death whilst driving without insurance and causing death by dangerous driving.

He remains in custody.

Detective Sergeant Kirsty Troy, who is leading the investigation, said: “This is a devastating incident in which a man has sadly lost his life.

“Our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones as they come to terms with this tragic loss.

“While we have made one arrest already in connection with this incident, we are now working hard to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

“I would ask anyone who was in the area at the time, or may have captured dashcam, CCTV or doorbell camera footage, to contact police as this information could be crucial in our investigation.”
