An audience of 9.3 million tuned in to the latest instalment of The Celebrity Traitors to watch comedian Joe Lycett be banished from the castle.

The sixth episode of the BBC reality gameshow also attracted a peak audience of 9.6 million and a 57% audience share, according to the BBC.

The second season of The Celebrity Traitors launched earlier this month, with the premiere becoming the most watched debut episode of any series of the programme in the UK, with an average of 8.9 million viewers.

Friday’s episode opened with the revelation no player had been murdered after traitors Maya Jama and James Acaster recruited content creator King Kenny.

The YouTube star filled the vacancy left by Hannah Fry, after she was banished during the round table in Thursday’s episode and exposed as a traitor.

Lycett had been vocal that he wanted to be her replacement, which ultimately sealed his fate as he was banished after his calls for recruitment aroused suspicion from his fellow faithfuls.

Elsewhere in the episode, the celebrities underwent a gruelling mission in the pouring rain, during which they answered questions about each other to match statue heads with their bodies and mount them on plinths.

During the game it was revealed the group voted actor Michael Sheen as head of the round table, while Romesh Ranganathan has the best poker face and Jerry Hall has her head in the clouds.

After the dramatic round table, Little Mix star Leigh-Anne Pinnock lightened the mood as she taught comedian Miranda Hart the dance moves to the band’s hit Touch.

While Hart was busy dubbing herself “Big Mix”, the traitors were attempting to murder either Hall or Ross Kemp in plain sight by “boring them to death”.

The treacherous trio sprayed a perfume from a peacock bottle, and then were trying to encourage a faithful to yawn to inhale the perfume and kill them.

The episode ended with the clock ticking and the traitors under pressure as it seemed they were running out of time.

Viewers must wait until next week to find out whether they were successful in their latest murder.

The Celebrity Traitors continues on BBC One at 8pm next Thursday.
