Debt, poison and one blow each: New chilling details in Jaipur quadruple murder

Mounting debt emerging as a possible motive behind murders

JAIPUR: Police investigating the Kardhani quadruple murder suspect that accused Rahul Jha (45) may have incapacitated his wife and three daughters with poison or sedatives before killing them with a single blow each to the head.

“He attacked all victims with a single blow to their heads, as opposed to multiple blows,” said an officer.Froth was found around victims’ mouths, prompting investigators to examine whether a poisonous substance or sedative mixed with food was given to them. Police, however, said frothing can also occur in cases of severe blunt-force trauma to the head, and therefore it is not conclusive evidence of poisoning.Investigators are also piecing together a possible sequence of events inside the house.

Police suspect Rahul may have checked on the four after they fell unconscious and realised they were still alive. He may then have used a roughly 10kg cinder block to deliver a blow to each victim’s head.Police are investigating whether Rahul planned the killings, citing findings that each victim appeared to have suffered a single major blow rather than repeated attacks in a fit of rage.Mounting debt is emerging as a possible motive. Investigators have learnt that Rahul’s wife, Geeta, was also named as a partner in the ownership documents of the house. One line of inquiry is whether Rahul wanted to mortgage the property to raise money to clear his debts and whether Geeta had opposed the move.Police have announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to Rahul’s arrest. Multiple teams are tracking his movements through CCTV footage and other evidence.
