Man killed in crash involving lorry driven by man under influence of alcohol

PORT DICKSON: A man was killed and his wife as well as daughter were injured after the car they were travelling in collided with a lorry driven by a man suspected of being under the influence of alcohol yesterday.
District police chief Superintendent Ahmad Afiq Mohd Adnan said the 35-year-old car driver died at the scene from severe injuries sustained in the 6.50pm incident at Km13.5 of Jalan Lukut-Sepang here.
The man's 32-year-old wife and their five-year-old daughter were injured in the accident.
He said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the 46-year-old lorry driver, who was travelling towards Sepang from Lukut, is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before entering the opposite lane and colliding with the car.
"The lorry driver was unhurt.
"An initial screening found that his urine test was negative, but a breathalyser test showed an alcohol reading above the permitted limit. All the victims were taken to Port Dickson Hospital for further action," he said in a statement today.
He said the lorry driver had been arrested and the case was being investigated under Section 44(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs, or exceeding the prescribed limit, resulting in injury or death.
