Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Foreign passengers using trains in PT Kereta Api Indonesia’s Yogyakarta operating area rose 7.8 percent to 264,335 in January-September 2026 from 245,229 a year earlier.

"The growth shows strong mobility among foreign tourists using rail transport. Yogyakarta Station is an important gateway to various tourist destinations," KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta Spokesperson Feni Novida Saragih said.

Foreign passengers departing from the Daop 6 area totaled 135,897 during the period, up 6.5 percent from 127,561 a year earlier, she said here on Wednesday.

Foreign arrivals totaled 128,438, a 9.1 percent increase from 117,668 in the same period last year.

The six Daop 6 stations with the most foreign departures in January-September 2026 were Yogyakarta with 108,210 passengers and Solo Balapan with 11,548.

They were followed by Lempuyangan with 11,002 passengers, Wates with 1,368, Purwosari with 1,064, and Klaten with 1,017.

For foreign arrivals, Yogyakarta Station led with 101,476 passengers, followed by Solo Balapan with 10,938, Lempuyangan with 10,834, Wates with 1,526, Klaten with 967, and Purwosari with 966.

Feni said the increase in rail travel was supported by modernized facilities, improved English-language services, digital information boards, and easier ticket purchases through KAI’s Access app.

"We are optimistic that rail connectivity will create a multiplier effect across the regional tourism ecosystem, including accommodation, culinary businesses and MSMEs around stations," Saragih said.
