17 rescued as outrigger boat sinks in Cagayan town
SANTIAGO CITY, ISABELA, Philippines — An outrigger boat capsized along Dalupiri Island in Magsidel, Calayan town in Cagayan on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 5, a disaster response officer said.
Jeo Robert Arirao, Calayan municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer, said that the boat, MB Geri An, was on its way to Calayan after leaving the port in Claveria town in the morning.
However, the boat was smashed by strong waves that caused it to be drenched with water and eventually capsized.

Crew members were able to send radio messages to the coast guard and disaster responders, who went to the area with MB Claricel, which was used to pull the wrecked boat.
The rescued individuals included passengers and boat crew. They underwent a medical check-up upon arrival at the port and were cleared to go home. /cb
