Mindanao tourism to take spotlight in Sultan Kudarat expo

KORONADAL CITY — Tourism officials and industry players from across Mindanao are all set for the trade expo in Sultan Kudarat, which will strengthen regional travel links and promote the island as a more connected tourism circuit.
The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Soccsksargen (Region 12) will host the 4th Mindanao Tourism Expo (MTEX) from Oct. 2 to 5 in Isulan town, with the Sultan Kudarat provincial government as co-host.DOT-Soccsksargen said the four-day event, themed “One Mindanao, Endless Wonders,” will bring together DOT regional offices to promote tourism in Mindanao’s six regions.

Beyond showcasing destinations, local products and cultures, the expo seeks to strengthen Mindanao’s tourism brand by encouraging travel links among regions and opening its destinations to a wider market, according to a DOT-Soccsksargen briefer.A travel and trade exhibit from Oct. 2 to 4 will feature Mindanao regions, local government units, airlines, and micro, small and medium enterprises offering tour packages, local delicacies and artisan products.Tourism sellers from Mindanao will also meet buyers from Luzon and the Visayas during the business-to-business meetings at Carlito’s Hotel on Oct. 3.DOT-Soccsksargen, headed by Nelia Arina, said the meetings are intended to create partnerships between local tourism enterprises and travel agencies and help bring Mindanao destinations and tourism products to markets outside the island.The expo will also highlight Mindanao’s cultural heritage.“Weaves of Mindanao,” a cultural and fashion show on Oct. 2, will feature indigenous fabrics such as Tnalak and Inaul incorporated into contemporary designs by local designers.
