Quezon City orders forced evacuation in high-risk areas

MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City on Saturday ordered the forced evacuation of residents near creeks, slopes and other high-risk areas in several barangays due to hazards brought by continuous monsoon rains.

In an advisory issued at 3:30 p.m., the local government has ordered the forced evacuation of residents in high-risk areas in the following barangays:

“Hinihikayat rin ang ibang barangay na wala sa listahan pero may mga lugar ding binabaha o may banta ng landslide na magsagawa ng preemptive evacuation,” the LGU said.

(Other barangays not on the list—but which have flood-prone areas or face a threat of landslides—are also encouraged to conduct preemptive evacuations.)

Heavy to intense rains are expected to persist in Metro Manila, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, due to the enhanced southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
