A magnitude 6.4 earthquake jolted parts of Mindanao on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The earthquake struck at 4:07 p.m., with the epicenter located 42 kilometers southwest of Balut Island in Sarangani, Davao Occidental. The tectonic quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers.

The agency said the earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.8 offshore Sarangani and magnitude 6.5 offshore Davao Occidental earthquakes in June 2026.

The following instrumental intensities were recorded on Thursday:

  • Intensity III: Kidapawan City, Cotabato; Digos City and Matanao, Davao del Sur; Sarangani, Jose Abad Santos, and Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental; Maitum, Sarangani; Banga, South Cotabato; and Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.
  • Intensity II: Carmen, Mlang, and President Roxas, Cotabato; Davao City; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; Maasim, Sarangani; Santo Niño, Surallah, and Norala, South Cotabato; and President Quirino, Esperanza, Kalamansig, and Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
