MANILA, Philippines — The southwest monsoon or habagat and the trough of a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring rains over Luzon and parts of the Visayas on Wednesday, the state weather bureau said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), occasional rains will persist over Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.

Because of the habagat, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are also expected in Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Aklan, and Antique.

Moreover, the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley and Aurora may experience cloudy skies with scattered rains due to the trough of the tropical depression.

“Ito ‘yung dati nating binantayan na si Pilandok na may international name na Krovan,” weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said in Pagasa’s morning weather briefing.

“Umaabot ‘yung extension ng kaulapan neto dito sa may Northern Luzon na ito rin ang nagdadala ng mga pag-ulan dito sa lugar na ito,” she added.

No low-pressure area (LPA) is being monitored by Pagasa within PAR this Wednesday. However, the formation of an LPA is not being ruled out by the bureau.

“By Friday, September 11, inaasahan natin, may posibilidad tayong mabuo na low pressure area na magpapalakas dito sa ating habagat,” Dominguez said.
