President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, Patrice Motsepe, has congratulated Nigeria’s Flamingos on their historic qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

The Flamingos, led by Akeem Busari, secured their place in the final after recording an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday night’s semi-final in Rabat.

The achievement marks the first time an African nation has reached the final of the competition.

Nigeria and Ghana had previously recorded Africa’s best performances, finishing third in 2022 and 2012, respectively.

Motsepe praised the young Nigerian side, saying their remarkable achievement had made Africa and CAF proud.

The South African football administrator is expected to be in attendance when the Flamingos face Japan in Sunday’s final in Rabat as they seek to make history by winning the title.
