North Korea said Tuesday it had test-fired a “tactical” ballistic missile a day earlier to confirm the success of a technical upgrade to “an important core element,” state-run media reported.
“The Missile Administration announced that the technical upgrading of the core element is a big success heralding an important change in improving the performance and sophistication of all offensive weapon systems,” the North’s official Korean Central News Agency said in a report without elaborating.
North Korea on Monday fired off multiple ballistic missiles from its eastern coast, with at least two believed to have fallen into waters outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone, which extends 200 nautical miles (370 kilometers) from Japan’s shores.
