The Serie A match between Torino and Lecce saw kick-off delayed by 16 minutes after officials realised the lines around the pitch were wonky, causing problems with the technology.
It was scheduled to kick off at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino in Turin at 14.00 GMT (15.00 CET).
After the minute’s silence, which is before all Serie A and B matches this weekend for Spanish player Jesus de Miguel Alameda, the officials realised something wasn’t right with the goal-line near the Curva Maratona end of the stadium.
Torino-Lecce technical difficulty
The goal-line technology was having difficulty reading it, and some checks showed this was because the line was not completely straight.
There was a delay with players continuing warm-up exercises while the stadium staff drew the line on again, and the checks with help from VAR officials confirmed the issue was fixed.
It was the kind of error that is rarely seen in modern football, certainly in the top flight of a major five European League.
