The defense team of Vice President Sara Duterte will address the absence of the amounts of bank deposits and investment insurance under her name and her husband in due time.
Atty. Michael Poa made the response after the prosecution panel said that the Vice President and her husband, Manases Carpio’s non-declaration of tens of millions of bank deposits and investment insurance in their Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025 proves willful concealment tantamount to betrayal of public trust and culpable violation of the Constitution.
“We will address those issues, and we’re trying to address those issues during the cross-examination yesterday. It is for the court to appreciate,” Poa said in a press conference.
“It does not end there. When it is our turn to present our evidence-in-chief, we will continue to address these numbers. We will be able to explain matters further when it is our turn,” he added.
Marwin Galvez, BPI Central Metro Manila division head, also testified on Wednesday that the joint account of the Vice President and her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, purchased two sets of unutilized manager’s checks valued at P41 million and P55 million, respectively.
Poa argued during the trial that the Vice President does not recall such purchase of manager’s checks.
As the witnesses testified that the Vice President’s husband purchased investment insurance, other defense counsels also took turns in pointing out that the Insurance Code does not require consent from a spouse.
Still, Poa said the defense will expound on their point at the proper time. —AOL,GMA News
