The Marvel Cinematic Universe is gearing up for some major changes.
With only a few upcoming MCU movies and TV shows left for Phase 6, The Multiverse Saga is nearing its end, but Marvel Studios is already busy working on future projects post-Avengers: Secret Wars. With reboots in the works for the X-Men and Ghost Rider, the franchise also has a big TV show coming in 2028, and new details have finally emerged about it.
In a new report from The Wrap, they provided updates on the upcoming MCU drama Zodiac, as their sources are telling the outlet that the upcoming series will "be made with a more modest budget," with the goal that the "cheaper budget will hopefully set the show up for the possibility of further seasons." They also added that there is "room for known characters and actors to appear in a supporting capacity," but didn't list any specific names of players at the time.
A "Marvel TV insider" told The Wrap, "they believe that Zodiac will provide a similar jumping-on point for new fans — again with the hope that the show can continue past Season 1." As far as larger ties to the MCU timeline go, the spy-thriller might have "some rewards for people who knows the lore," but there is also the intention that those who don't follow the franchise will still get "a really satisfying story" that may "entice" viewers to "go back and watch some stories from the past as well," per their insider.
As of writing, Marvel Studios and Disney+ have not commented on The Wrap's report about Zodiac. Filming is set to start in 2027, with casting currently underway for the Phase 7 drama, as the show was formally announced at New York Comic-Con 2026 last month. Deadline shared in an October report that "the story will follow a pair of spies who are chasing targets who have special abilities."

Rearrange the movies into the correct US release order.
Brad Winderbaum, who is the Head of Marvel Television, Animation, Comics and Franchise, offered a few clues to Collider in a previous interview about the mystery project. He confirmed that “We’re shooting it in London next spring, but it’s a secret. The more I say — I’ll put it to you this way," while adding that "there’s a million things I want to say, but people are going to enjoy it the most if they experience it on their own. I’ll say this — it’s a globetrotting, international espionage show about secrets and lies and betrayals and secret acts of loyalty and an insane cast of characters — I have to stop talking.”
While no cast members have been announced yet, Zodiac recently tapped Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem as the showrunners. However, one of the big theories floating around is that the project may be tied to Agents of SHIELD in one way or another, given the similar premises. Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson, sparked speculation online about potentially coming back for the series after sharing the logo of the new series on his Instagram story.
Even though there has been a lot of debate about Agents of SHIELD's place in the larger MCU canon, Avengers: Secret Wars is confirmed to lead to a reset of the franchise, according to Kevin Feige. With the Disney+ Original coming out after the Phase 6 feature, it wouldn't be shocking if the ABC drama is properly merged with whatever the timeline looks like after the 2027 installment, thus allowing any characters from the original series to come back in the Zodiac show.
Marvel's Zodiac is set to premiere in 2028 on Disney+.
