Released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap is considered an underrated gem when it comes to the Zelda franchise. Marking the twelfth entry in the Nintendo series, Minish Cap shed light on the history of the Four Sword and villain Vaati, but it was Link's ability to shrink down in size after acquiring a magical talking cap named Ezlo that the game is most known for.

As such, The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap was met with positive reviews and has since been re-released on the Wii U and even joined the Nintendo Classics collection for the Nintendo Switch in February 2023.

Link meets the Minish elder Gentari in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap.

However, this has not stopped fans from calling out for a modern-day remake, especially as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is set to receive the treatment as a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive later this year.

Whilst there has been no news of a potential The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap remake, that has not stopped fans from speculating and hoping that one will be on the horizon following the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.

Over on r/truezelda, one fan asked, "What would your thoughts be on a HD-2D remake of Minish Cap?... "Over 20 years later, Minish Cap's art style is still something that I find extremely charming. It made great use of the GBA's capabilities and I still love seeing its gorgeous art style to this day. If it was to be remade, I think a HD-2D art style could work, if done correctly. If you aren't familiar with HD-2D, it's an art style that Square Enix created and owns the legal rights to... I'm not saying it should be done in this exact art style, but perhaps modified to accommodate for MC's specific art style."

With over 40 comments racked up over time, it is safe to say that other Zelda fans have their own thoughts about the future of the franchise, especially when it comes to 2004's The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap making a return.

"I don’t see the need when the original art style is still cute and charming," the top comment reads. "I also didn’t see the need for Link's Awakening, and they still redid that one in an art style I didn’t care for." Another fan agreed, adding, "It's tough because a remake would be cool, and I wouldn't mind the HD-2D style. But also, Minish Cap already looks good, the game hasn't really aged, and it doesn't need a remake."

With another user commenting, "Minish Cap needs no update for either its visuals or gameplay, no need for it to be remade at all.

The only old Zelda game I can see working with the HD-2D style is A Link to the Past, but I definitely don't want that game remade after we have already got Link Between Worlds and Echoes of Wisdom". It seems as though the consensus is that a remake is not needed.

However, that has not stopped Nintendo before, so time will only tell if The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap will receive a remake during the Nintendo Switch 2 era and beyond.
