Neeru Dhanda leads India to women’s trap team silver at Asian Games

India’s Neeru Dhanda celebrates after helping the women’s trap team win silver at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Dhanda also qualified for the individual final after finishing joint-second in qualification with a score of 118/125.

Neeru Dhanda produced a composed and consistent display on the range to lead India to a silver medal in the women’s trap team event at the Asian Games here on Tuesday.Neeru, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer combined for 328 points to finish second behind China, which won gold with 346.

Kuwait took bronze with 325.

The medal was built around a strong individual showing from Neeru, who finished the qualification round with 118 hits out of 125. She was joint-first in the individual standings and also qualified for the individual final.Neeru began with 24 hits in the opening round and followed it with a perfect 24 in the second round. She added 24 in the third, 23 in the fourth and 23 in the fifth to finish on 118.

Only Qatar's Ray Bassil, also on 118, was ahead on the ranking tiebreak.Asian Games Full Coverage|Medal Tally|ScheduleAashima finished with 106, while Manisha contributed 104 as the Indian trio accumulated 328 points. Aashima's scores across the five rounds were 20, 22, 23, 19 and 22, while Manisha shot 19, 21, 22, 22 and 20.

China's gold-medal winning trio finished on 346, with their five-round totals reading 65, 71, 70, 72 and 68. Kuwait completed the podium with 325.

For India, the silver adds another medal to its shooting campaign at the Aichi-Nagoya Games. It is also India's second Asian Games medal in the women's trap team event, after the silver won at Hangzhou in 2023 by Manisha Keer, Rajeshwari Kumari and Preeti Rajak.The medal also takes India's shooting haul at the 2026 Asian Games to 13 medals, while India's overall tally moves to 46 medals.But the immediate focus will now turn to Neeru. Having already put together one of the strongest qualification performances in the field, she will return for the individual final with an opportunity to add another medal to India's tally.
