Pagasa monitors 2 LPAs, one with chance to develop into cyclone

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau is monitoring two low-pressure areas (LPAs) after another formed outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Friday afternoon.

In its latest update, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that as of 2 p.m., the newly formed LPA outside PAR was located 1,460 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

The weather disturbance has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the LPA that Pagasa has been monitoring inside PAR was last located 560 kilometers east-northeast of Itbayat, Batanes.

The LPA still has a “medium” chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, Pagasa said.

Malacañang already suspended government work and classes at all levels, public and private, in the entire Metro Manila and 16 provinces on Friday afternoon due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which could be further enhanced by the LPA inside PAR.
